Eddie Gutierrez is a Filipino actor.
He is the son of Antonio Atayde Gutierrez, Jr. and Mary Rufina Herranz Pickett. Eddie is married to actress Annabelle Rama. He has a son, actor Tonton Gutierrez, with his former partner, actress Liza Lorena; a son with his former partner, singer and actress Pilita Corrales; and six children, including model Ruffa Gutierrez, and actors Richard Gutierrez and Raymond Gutierrez, with Annabelle.
Eddie is a second cousin, once removed, of American musician Bruno Mars. Eddie’s maternal great-grandparents, Mariano Herranz Heras and Mamerta Cañizares Secuya, were also Bruno’s maternal great-great-grandparents.
Eddie’s patrilineal line can be traced back to Matías Gutiérrez.
Eddie’s paternal grandfather was Antonio María Rogelio Gutiérrez del Campo (the son of Antonio Luciano María Gutiérrez Azpúrua and Filomena Segunda del Campo Gutiérrez). Eddie’s grandfather Antonio was a Spanish merchant who moved to Manila. He was born in Santander, Cantabria, Cantabria, to parents who were first cousins. Luciano was the son of Antonio Escolástico Gutiérrez Gutiérrez and María Dolores Azpúrua Peláez. Filomena was the daughter of Juan José del Campo y Fernández Castañeda and Benita Gutiérrez Gutiérrez. Antonio Escolástico and Benita were siblings.
Eddie’s paternal grandmother was María Paz Victoria García y Atayde (or María Paz Victoria García Atayde in Filipino, the daughter of José María Atayde y Acosta, or José María Acosta Atayde in Filipino, and of Rosalía Paz García y Mirs, or Rosalía Paz Mirs García in Filipino). Eddie’s grandmother María was born in Quiapo, Manila, Metro Manila, and was Filipino, of ethnic Spanish background. Eddie’s great-grandfather José was the son of José María Atayde y Martínez (or José María Martínez Acosta in Filipino) and of Josefa Trinidad Acosta y Ayllón (or Josefa Trinidad Ayllón Acosta in Filipino). Eddie’s great-grandmother Paz was the daughter of Francisco García and María Mirs.
Eddie’s maternal grandfather was John Thomas Pickett (the son of Andrew Pickett and Mary Ann McLaren). John, born in Lowville, Halton Regional Municipality, Ontario, was a Canadian merchant who moved to Manila. Some sources inaccurately reported him as an American citizen. Andrew was the son of Thomas Ebenezer Pickett and Anna Catherine Smith. Eddie’s great-grandmother Mary Ann was the daughter of John McLaren and Nancy Cleaver.
Eddie’s maternal grandmother was Jesusa “Susa” Herranz Cañezares (the daughter of Mariano Herranz Heras and Mamerta Cañizares Secuya). Jesusa was born in Hagonoy, Bulacan, Central Luzon. Mariano was born in Nava de la Asunción, Segovia, Spain, the son of Pedro Herranz García and Eusebia Heras Molina. Mamerta was classified as “india” (indigenous), and was born in Talisay, Cebu, Philippines, the daughter of Alejo Cañizares Canindot (or Alejo Canindot Cañizares in Filipino), also of Talisay, and of Sabina Secuya Larombe (or Sabina Larombe Secuya in Filipino). The surname Secuya is also spelled as Sycuya, which is of possibly Chinese origin, but it is not clear if Sabina had Chinese ancestry.
